How to design a retro interior

For me there’s nothing I love more than hunting down a bargain piece of vintage furniture, giving it a little love & reusing it. Our place is filled of ebay bargains we’ve reworked over the years! I truly love an eclectic interior, I’m not a huge fan of brand new furniture, I definitely don’t want our space to be the same as everyone else’s, and over the years the bargain hunting has let us get some great pieces when budget realistically didn’t allow us to be buying new. I know now its trendy, to have something “vintage” but the great news is we’re reusing, recycling and giving a brand new life to someone else’s cast offs. So here’s my favourite vintage pieces I’ve found this week -

Teak Dining Chairs - Vintage

The Ultimate Loungers Vintage Sofa - Vintage

Now the key to making your space work with vintage pieces is to introduce these along side some fresh contemporary wall finishes or a great wide planked timber floor. If the entire space has a vintage feel, it can look overdone, overworked and just OTT. Add a few key pieces, individual stylized items that you have cherry picked and it will start to turn your average space into something a little special! As my mood board a neutral canvas to add your reclaimed furniture, simple wall coverings a fresh light paint job then add a contemporary tile, an aztec rug something to soften the space to give you a more “lived in” vibe. The main point is to pick items that will sit well together, nothing wants to be too matchy matchy. If you’ve got a really heavy traditional printed wall paper, sit this with a clean contemporary style furniture, the mix of the two opposing features can work really well.
